CAPSI-IPSF > Are you a pharmacist or an instructor?

Welcome to the CAPSI-IPSF webpage! We're glad you've stopped by.

Hopefully you've enjoyed reading about the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation-if you were already familiar with the IPSF then you surely have some fond memories of the wonderful people involved with the Federation.

However, if this is the first you have heard of the group, fear not! The CAPSI Student Exchange Officer and IPSF Liaison are always available to answer any questions you may have! (for their email addresses please visit our CAPSI Executive page)

As is mentioned under the "IPSF sounds great...but what do they ACTUALLY do?", the activities that IPSF undertakes can be divided into six categories. Here is a brief summary:
  1. Student Exchange Program. This wonderful opportunity is discussed in more detail by clicking on the link.

  2. Publications. These are available to any interested parties and are available on the website: http://www.ipsf.org or by contacting the IPSF Liaison on the CAPSI Executive.

  3. Public Health. The IPSF has Official Relations Status with the World Health Organization and supports many of their public health awareness campaigns.

The following dates are observed at all Canadian Pharmacy schools:
    • Diabetes and Healthy Living - November 4th
    • World HIV/AIDS Awareness Day - December 1st
    • World Health Tuberculosis Awareness Day - March 24th
    • World Health Day - April 7th
    • World No Tobacco Day - May 31st

Please do not hesitate to contact the IPSF Liaison, or the Local Reps from your nearest university if you are interested in participating in any of these health awareness campaigns. Their email addresses are available on the CAPSI Executive page.

  4. Professional Development. The IPSF strives to enhance the education of pharmacy students around the world and patient counseling skills is one area that many students felt they could improve upon. The Patient Counseling Handbook and Patient Counseling competitions have been extremely useful for students at schools that do not incorporate role-play patient-pharmacist scenarios for students-and the international competition held each year at the annual congress provides students with an arena to show off their skills!

  5. Pharmacy Education. The IPSF is currently working on two major projects-the Moving On research project which is monitoring the attitudes and career goals of pharmacy students around the globe, as well as the recently unveiled "Training New Trainers" program which hopes to improve student's leadership skills. Both programs are extremely exciting for those involved with the IPSF and promise to become more interesting as the Federation works towards combining the Professional Development and Pharmacy Education portfolios.

  6. Conferences. In addition to the IPSF World Congress, CAPSI will be trying to keep Canadian students informed about upcoming health-care related conferences through this website. If you know of any upcoming conferences that you feel students may be interested in, please do no hesitate to contact the IPSF Liaison so that the details may be passed on to the students.

For those familiar with the IPSF world congress, this no doubt brings back fond memories. Please check back to the CAPSI website as we work towards having some pictures from previous Congresses available for all to see.
